Micro-Volunteering
Our theme this year for NAWBO NEO is “Honoring the Past & Leading the Future.” As our new President, Bevan Evans, recently said, one of the most powerful ways we're doing that is by embracing micro-volunteering.
If you haven’t heard the term before, it simply means finding small, meaningful ways to engage and contribute. It's a concept that Omelia C. Thornton helped us define: A micro volunteer is a member who can incrementally give their time to any event or committee.
This approach works because it meets us where we are. You don’t need hours of free time or a formal role to make a difference in our chapter; just a willingness to step in and help in ways that work for you. As the saying goes, many hands make light work, and NAWBO NEO recognizes that your time is valuable. The beauty of micro-volunteering is that it's easy to weave into your existing routines.
Here are a few simple ways you can get involved:
- Use your platform. Love social media? Share our posts to help spread the word about NAWBO NEO events and initiatives.
- Share your network. Are you a frequent attendee of events and love to network? Invite a colleague or friend to attend with you and introduce them to a valuable connection.
- Lend a hand at events. Do you love making people feel welcome? Volunteer to be a greeter, hand out name tags, or help new members get acquainted.
- Lend a hand behind the scenes. Are you someone who is low-key and prefers to work behind the scenes? That’s great. There are a variety of tasks that assist in our chapter operations, such as sending postcards to other members or collaborating on a committee.
Our leadership team believes our organization is strongest when we all contribute. By lending a hand, you help our chapter continue to thrive.
As we celebrate the legacy we've inherited, we embrace the call to action to move forward with purpose.
If you’re interested in becoming a Volunteer Ambassador or learning more about other micro-volunteer opportunities, please reach out to Omelia C. Thornton at [email protected]. We would love to have your help!
